looks really nice, the easiest way I could think of would just be to use an svg in the panel, make it the same width as your screen resolution is and the normal height of the panel, which is 25 or 26px, then set it to stretch that way it'll fit nicely to all sizes while maintaining the shape and where the curves are and should line up pretty much the same on almost all systems or pretty close to it, this should give you your transparencies also or you could just use a png, but if it's just colors with no textures svg should do nicely.
I wanted a texture in the menu pop up and traced bitmapped a png into an svg and it worked nicely too, mind you I set the colors to 12 for an almost black texture.
But thats the way I would go at it unless you can figure out a way to do it all in css but the curves would be a headache if they can be done at all.
Should look nice once its done

Ok. Here is a quick and dirty example of how to do it. Check the panel.js section of the theme. You probably want to make some better images. I made those just to give an idea of how to do it. You will also have to change the foreground color for the applets you use in the center of the panel. Hope this helps.

Re: How to make Cinnamon panel look like Zorin's ??

Unless I'm mistaken, Zorin OS appears to be using Avant Window Navigator (AWN) as its panel, likely with dockbarx handling the application launchers/task manager through the dockbarx applet for AWN.

I'm not certain about this, but it appears they might have a custom clock applet installed as well, the clock applets included with AWN don't appear to match the one in your mock-up screenshot.

I believe they also have a custom menu applet that mimics the appearance of the start menu from Windows Vista (or Windows 7, they were fairly similar). I don't know where you would be able to get that menu.

I'm not sure whether I could help you in any way to be able to set up AWN to match (as closely as possible) the setup they appear to use in Zorin OS, however, I can try to point you in the right direction...

Firstly, you'd need to install Avant Window Navigator. I don't know whether the AWN packages are still included in the repos of whatever Linux Mint version you're running (I know Quantal Quetzal no longer has them...), so, just in case, here's a link to how to install AWN on Ubuntu 12.10 (the base for Linux Mint 14): http://www.webupd8.org/2012/11/how-to-i ... gator.html

Once AWN is installed, you'll also need to install the dockbarx applet for AWN. The package for that is called "awn-applet-dockbarx". It's included in the repository you'll be adding if you follow the instructions on that website.

Once they're both installed, you'll need to start Avant Window Navigator (it should show up in the menu as such, so searching for it should be easy enough).

Once it's running, you'll need to go to it's preferences (just right-click anywhere on the AWN panel, but not on the launchers/tasks running, and select Dock Preferences), change the dock style to Lucido, check the box to Expand the panel, possibly make any other changes you like on the main preferences page before going to the applets section, then replace the default Launcher/Task Manager applet with the DockbarX applet. You'll also want to add an expander following the DockbarX applet, then a separator, followed by whatever other applets you choose to put along the right-hand side of the panel. (It appears there's a notification area applet, followed by the mail check applet, followed by the clock, then a shut-down applet in the mock-up you made, whether you choose to use those or go with your own setup, that's up to you.)

Once you have the panel laid out how you want, you can change the appearance of the panel by going to the Themes section, clicking the Customize button at the bottom, then changing the colours and such until you have the panel looking how you like. (To achieve a look similar to your example, in the Numeric Settings section, change the value of Thickness to 0, and change the value of Curves Symmetry to 0.50. You can change the colours to whatever you like. With the Lucido style, First highlight, Second Highlight, and Inner Border colours change the appearance of the part that's partially transparent in your mock-up, the First Gradient, Second Gradient, and Outer Border colours change the appearance of the part that's white in your mock-up.)

To change the appearance of the DockbarX applet (and to fix AWN window dodging), you'll need to launch DockbarX Preferences. You can set the window dodge behaviour to whatever you prefer, to change the theme used, go to Appearance and select whatever theme looks best to you. (It appears Zorin OS might be using the Deep theme, so you could try that, or choose whatever theme looks best to you.)

I hope this helps!

Also, here's a screenshot of the end result I got while playing around with AWN and the DockbarX applet:

Ah, yeah, I kinda realized that after the fact... *shrug*

The only way to do that would be with an image used as the panel background, as already mentioned earlier in the thread. There's no way to handle the curvy features of the panel as in Zorin's panel with the CSS supported by the Cinnamon panel.

(At any rate, it was kinda fun to figure out what Zorin OS used and how to get the panel appearance they have, or at least something very close to it...)

I added an image to the theme folder and named it 701.jpg and following this threadhttp://www.w3schools.com/cssref/pr_background-image.asp I added
Code: Select all
background-image:url('701.jpg');
to the panel section to make it look like this:
Code: Select all
/* ===================================================================
 * Panel (panel.js)
 * ===================================================================*/
#panel {
   color: #E9967A ;
        background-image:url('701.jpg');
   background-color: #6B8E23   ;
   font-size: 8.5pt;
   font-weight: normal;
   height: 25px;
}

It worked but the background image is not stretched across the panel. It looks like this:

You probably need to specify the size of the background image using the background-size property, since it appears your background is not the full width of your monitor.

the line would probably need to look something like this:
Code: Select all
background-size: [height of panel]px [width of panel]px;

Substitute the height and width of the panel (the width would be the width value of your monitor's resolution) in where necessary.

Just curious, what are the width and height of the image you're trying to use as the background? It's hard to make out what the background is supposed to look like in the image you posted.

If it's already at the height of the panel and is intended to be stretched or repeated along the length of the panel, instead of the above, you could just use the background-repeat property, as so:
Code: Select all
background-repeat: repeat-x;

The above will repeat the image along the entire width of the panel.

Did you check the attachment I gave you earlier in the thread? The changes are made to the panel.js section of the theme. Doing this way will ensure that the areas of the panel resize properly as applets are added and removed. It should do exactly what you want, the images I made to do it just aren't done very well. I made them in less than a minute just to show how to do it. If that isn't what you are looking for, let me know what you wanted different and I will try to help.

Here ya go Brahim I had a few minutes so I did it for you, if you put this in your themes and select it you'll see your panel has the transparent part in the middle and the grads on the side, I made an svg so you can change it or do what ya want to it to get it how ya want to. I left the center out, so if you want color in there just add it in inkscape, I made it so it stretches and you can make that svg smaller if you want it's vector so it's all math anyhow, just keep it portionate to your panel you want (the angles etc) and it will strech on up to your panel, if you want textures you got two choices, make it as a png instead or bring the png into inscape and do a bitmap trace with colors about how many are in the image (sometimes around 12 or more works good) that way it will turn your png into a svg to use like a normal svg again (all math instead of little boxes of colors that blur and get distroted and streched or tweaked).
I added the file to this.
Hope it solves your problem
the meaurement are in the css under panel, if you have any questions feel free to ask

lol it was easy, all I did was made an svg image, I left the middle totally empty to leave it 100% transparent and only did the sides, mind you the grad I used was not totally opaque but a bit transparent in case you wanted that, if you want to make any changes to it just open it up in inkscape and make your changes, just click on it and go to object then fill and stroke and choose fill (grad should be there, then edit the grad (I think it has three stops, I did it so quick I don't really remember how many) it only took me about a minute to do., if you want something in the center just make another vector there and do your maagic.
The only part I changed was this part: Line 254
Code: Select all
#panel {
    border-image: url('panel.svg') 5 5 5 5 stretch;
    height: 25px;
    padding-left: 3px;
}

I took out all the crap that wasn't needed, all you needed was the image and it to strech and the height and that's it. Pretty simple stuff, you can fool around with the padding to see what results you like, but that's about it.
Also you can make the svg as small as you want pretty much as long as it's portortinate (need spell check or more schooling lol), svg's are vector's it's all math to create the grads and images so you don't get the headaches of blurring on resizing.
The middle should be totally transparent, I put nothing there at all just a small line on the bottom like the image (all I did was bring that image into inkscape and outlined the curves and gave it a grad then deleted the image and saved it. This is the theme you put up in here I just added the panel for you and repackaged it lol, it's whoevers theme it was, not mine so I don't know but you should be able to upload it theres usually no copyrights on themes unless its for phones or something.
If you got something in the middle it's not that panel part it's somewhere else in the code, show me a pic so I can see it cause when I tested it I had nothing in the middle at all just my windows.
I am also working on a css code to rotate and shew so you can aniamate that part of your theme you showed me in the html5 section, Im going to make a spinning galaxy if I can get it to skew properly if not it'll be a rotating one only lol.
Have fun

Keep us posted on that :D :D

PS I want to make the transparent area less transparent which line should I edit?

:lol: your lucky they didn't ban you lol it's not an issue just a piece of artwork lol.
Since there is only one area with any color at all in that panel area I made I guess your talking about that part, open up the panel.svg in inkscape, click the image then click object in the menu then fill and stroke then in the fill area make opacity whatever you want (the slide bar at the bottom in fill area) and save and your done.
The html5 roatate and skew might work it might not it might rotate all wonky with the skew so I might check into doing it 3d instead that way it will rotate and adjust one of the x,y or z until it looks skewed and rotating nicely without moving wonky, just hope 3d is supported in this one, I know it is some.

Looks good I see you added a middle shade also, looks better with that. lol I'm sure they'll be ok making a cinnamon theme usually linux themes don't have copyrights on them as far as I know or ever seen, everyone contributes and everyone forks everyones stuff for a lot of it which makes better stuff in the end, that's why linux is the best system on the planet (as far as I'm concerned but thats just my opinion), otherwise we all would have little boxes floating around our screens :lol: one of the most if not the most ridiculas desktop design I ever seen in my life is win 8, but to each their own.
Keep up the good work.
