Faster battery discharge when resumed from hibernate. SOLVED

Hello all,

I am running LMDE with liquorix 3.7.0-10.dmz.2 (686) kernel on Acer Aspire 3820TG.

After some configuration with the help of google (a lot of which was retrieved from this forum) I generally have a great battery life. When my machine starts normally (i.e. after a previous shut down or a reboot), my battery is reporting a discharge at the rate of about 10W. But when I resume from a hibernate the battery discharges at about 26W-27W (so, the battery drains faster). Also, the machine gets heated up more after I resume from a hibernate as opposed to a normal operation after normal start-up. I don't know what diagnostic information to provide to help locate the problem. So, to keep it simple, I leave it here**. I would grateful if anyone can provide hints as to what might be the issue. I can provide more information if you suggest me what details would help.

1. Graphic card: ATI mobility radeon HD5650 (hybrid graphics)

I would basically tease out that whole script you reference and see if you can spot any likely points of contention (parameters being selected, for example )..

Thanks for the reply. Now it will take some time for me to digest the suggestions, gather information and perform tests. I noticed one thing in pm-utils power.d scripts. It seems that the scripts under /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d (e.g. laptop-mode, sata-alpm, pcie_aspm etc. that came installed by default with pm-utils) don't have any effect even though they have execute permission. They work when I copy them to /etc/pm/power.d. Is this the expected behaviour? Well, I am sorry if this is a digression.

One more thing I forgot to mention in my first post is: powertop shows everything (except wireless powersaving for interface wlan0) as "Good" in both cases (i.e. after normal start-up as well as after resuming from hibernate). Would it perhaps mean that the problem is somewhere outside the pm scripts?

I have so far found only one difference between resume from hibernate and from shutdown. It is that powertop says "Autosuspend for USB device Acer Module [Broadcom Corp]" is Bad when resumed from hibernate as opposed to Good otherwise (both on battery and AC). Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

I found the fix at URL, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873027. This fix can be automated using the script provided in the point 5 of this blog (http://blog.lazut.in/2012/06/vgaswitche ... uered.html). After applying it, now the battery discharge rate on my laptop is around 10-12W both after resuming from the hibernate as well as shutdown.

P.S. After discovering this fix, I am afraid if the diagnostic information I focused on previously was misdirecting.
