Sabayon package installer is ugly! Yuck!

Post by catweazel »

I'm playing around with a few distros and just installed Sabayon. Good grief, the package installer "Rigo" is ugly. Broken windows, busted text boxes, and to top it all off, updates are shown in purple, light blue, dark blue, green, white, yellow and red text.

>> ## ( mirror #1 ) [dev-qt:qtmultimedia-4.8.4~2.tbz2] @ http://mirror.de.sabayon.org

What a total monstrosity the installer is. Apart from that, it runs smoothly.

Edit: AAAAARGGGH! Add aquamarine to the llist.

LOL. I don't care much for Rigo, so I use Equo from the command line instead. But the output is still "colored" so you might not like that, either!

say that again:

What a total monstrosity the installer is. Apart from that, it runs smoothly.

repeat as necessary:

What a total monstrosity the installer is. Apart from that, it runs smoothly.

Me too - I installed it on my wife's machine, a new Asus which also had UEFI.
She went from Windows Xp straight to using Sabayon...
zoom zoom zoom.

But I would not complain about the fonts as much as I would say the RIGO search functions
are not just a pain in the neck - they are absurd to the point of being ridiculous.

Looking for an application you first wade through pages and pages of lib files
of no apparent relevance before finding what you are searching for.
Rigo is not just fugly it is total moron to find things.
However - it must be recognized that RIGO is a step in the right direction
and will get better if they keep at it.

That said, if they could ever fix RIGO to be a bit more comprehensive
(remember the old Mandriva now Mageia installer ? That is almost perfection !
it outclasses Synaptic and the Mint software presenter by an order of magnitude )
they would be positioned to take over the world.

LMDE is nice, but it so far out of date it isn't funny anywore.
It is not a rolling release but a lurching release.
( But that makes it _very_ good for servers :D )

The future is there though - Sabayon is where the future exists
as software continues to evolve faster and faster the days
of install and upgrade will soon be for dinosaurs. (and servers )

cheers - LMDE is still better than anything else out there - and that includes the other Mint offerings
