Mint update "could not refresh the list of packages"

Post by toddwagg »

I am sorry if this has been addressed already, but I am having trouble applying some of the other threads to my situation. I have an "X" on my mintupdate icon and hovering over it says it couldn't refresh the list of packages. I have added a few repositories at times but I couldn't tell you what was added. Anyway, here is the message I am getting so I hope this helps:

ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR###ERROR
W:GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net oneiric Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY AD6F198CE63C3045, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntuone/stab ... ce/Sources 404 Not Found
, W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntuone/stab ... 6/Packages 404 Not Found
, E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Please tell me what I need to do.
Thanks,
Todd

Hi!

Looks like that ppa only covers jaunty, karmic and lucid (if you open the link in a browser you can back up the tree until you find something)
What package are you looking for?

go to software manager click on edit > Software Sources > (it will ask for your password, enter it) when the repository screen come up go to other software tab > then uncheck the one that says http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntuone/stab ... ain/source
click on close.
Then refresh the package list in in update manager and you should be set to go.

Thanks, that made since. But then I am not receiving updates to ubuntuone, right? I guess I really wasn't anyway, but do I need to use a different repository?

If you need the latest of the ubuntuone stuff, probably.
Most of these packages, if not all, are present in the oneiric and oneiric-updates repositories though. For just installing the ubuntuone-client and support packages I don't think you need a ppa. Are you following a tutorial?

No tutorial, just started with Ubuntu a few years back and had Ubuntu One for a while. I just realized it was also in my Mint repositories (or maybe just inherited from Ubuntu) so I installed it under Lisa. Just wanted another "dropbox"

It can output a list of bad RAM regions usable by the BadRAM kernel patch, so that you can still use your old RAM with one or two bad bits.

Memtest86+ is based on memtest86 3.0, and adds support for recent hardware, as well as a number of general-purpose improvements, including many patches to memtest86 available from various sources.

It's because your repositories are not named properly. It says "nadia" and it should say "oneiric" instead. Edit your sources.list file and change every instance of http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/nadia* into http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/oneiric*. Then run sudo apt-get update. You shouldn't get those errors anymore.

In your case you need to go to the /etc/apt/sources.list file and remove the techm3 ppa repository it is no longer active.
you'll have to do it as root.

Or you can do it with this command

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:whatever/ppa
Replacing ppa;whaever with the name of the ppa you installed.

I have just had an almost identical error. I think if you do the following in 'terminal' as sudo user, it will help solve your problem as it did mine:
