Mint 14, How to change the Nvidia drivers from the LiveCD?

Post by Quasimodem »

Hello!

I'm having issues with Linux Mint 14 and the experimental graphics drivers installed during installation, and was wondering if someone could provide me a little instruction? On bootup, after installation, the screen is black, which I assume is because of the open-source experimental Nvidia drivers. I have an Nvidia 670m, the system is an Asus G75vw-DS73-3D. Is is possible for me to install the closed-source Nvidia drivers from a LiveCD boot? I've been told to boot to the black screen and open a terminal with Alt-F1 or Ctrl-Alt-F1 and install from there, but of course, the screen just stays black.

Thanks!

Does anyone know how to do this or if it's possible?

This is solved... It is the Nouveau drivers that caused the black screen... So if anyone else has that issue, boot to a LiveCD, disable them and reboot... You will boot like Windows with no graphics drivers in a large resolution, and can install the proper ones...

Is your laptop a Nvidia Optimus setup - has an Integrated Intel Graphics and discrete GPU? Then needs to be handled differently. Can you post the details of the below code from terminal ?

Code: Select all

Cool. There is only one Graphics card and seem to work fine. So no worries for you. :)
