1080P Choppy video

Postby Shaun2000 on Tue Mar 19, 2013 3:41 am

Hi guys and girls, id first like to say that linux mint is awsome. Ive Been a windows user for many many years and have Finaly gotten sick of it and bitten the bullet and switched. Ive had minimal exp with centos but im still very new to linux.

ok here is my issue. Im trying to Play back 1080p video files through Vlc. I have a multiple monitor setup. I have my Pc Monitor as my main and My 72 inch tv as my secondary (Im guessing extended) . On my Tv Side i just have a full Screen Vlc, Which is controlled Via vlc remote. Now they Seem to work great side by side, but it looks choppy in intensive high fps scenes, less noticeable most of the time, but i can see.

The Graphics Card is a gt 8500 Running on nividas properteray drivers.

Is there some sort of tweak i have to do to get rid of this choppiness. I Know my Card can handle it as i had the same setup on windows with no issues.

Ps. Sorry if i havnt explained my self im Very tired, will re-answer if needed

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

After Further investigation it seems to be related to Composition. Ive searched around trying to find how I Can Turn Off Composition but i havnt come across anything for linux mint (im using the cinimon version)
Ive also Read that perhaps compiz Can (Not Fix) But Better handle the gl composition.

Ps Found out my issue Is Called Screen tearing.

What video card do you have? And have you installed any proprietary drivers?
