When I start LMDE, intermittently the desktop background loads and then the screen goes black. If I right click and change the background from my selection and then back again all is well.
Also clicking on the Mint Menu after start up does not display the menu until it is clicked again

Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
Weird... that's an old bug I've seen back in the days of LMDE Update Pack 3 (and Gnome 2). Also seen it recently in SolusOS 1.1 (also Gnome 2, and mintMenu version is 5.2.5solusos-1 but seems to be 5.2.4 actually). Can't reproduce it in LMDE UP4 with mintMenu 5.3.2 though.Fornhamfred wrote:Also clicking on the Mint Menu after start up does not display the menu until it is clicked again
What's the version of your mintMenu?

Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
This is a new install with Mint Menu 5.3.2
Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
Can you please test it in the same LMDE setup, but in VirtualBox (or any other virtual machine)? There are evidences that it doesn't happen there.
Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
I don't know, if this is the same issue, but when I start LMDE, my wallpaper is distorted. Other components of the desktop are ok. When I open an application and move its window, the background gets restored behind the application's window but not anywhere else. I use the proprietary driver for Nvidia graphics card.
On my Netbook I have the same problem. Only here the wallpaper completely disappears and the background goes black. I use the open driver for Intel graphics card.
Does anyone have an idea, what is going on and how this can be solved? Thank you.

Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
Hi,
I have the same problem, checked in three different computers. One Dell laptop, Acer Laptop and a Dell Desktop. I'm using LMDE 201204 MATE.
Every time I start a MATE session, MintMenu does not open with the first click (you just see the menu shadow). From the second click on it works right.
The problem began when I activated Compiz and It occurs in all computers at home with different graphics cards. I've tested it in both real and virtual machines with the same result. If you deactivate Compiz, the problem cease. Using xcompmgr composite instead Compiz also fix the problem, but xcompmgr is not integrated in MATE.
It's just an annoying bug. Any idea?

Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
The solution to the mintmenu / compositing problem appears to be to enter the Menu's Preferences settings > Options > and simply change the opacity setting from 98% to 100%. Thanks to GeneC for this, via the SolusOS forum: http://main.solusos.com/archive/index.php/t-1346.html)
Re: Desktop Background and Mint Menu
This problem with Mintmenu is still here, so probably it isn't easy to repair it. That's why I wonder if it is possible to set the default opacity to 100% in the next Mint Mate release (and maybe remove the opacity option). It will be less confusing and Mint will look better for the people which don't like to search the solution on the internet.
