PDF Printer / Writer for text pdf
I need a PDF Printer (or Writer) that make text pdfs. I have made a wide research, but I could not find one for linux. Cups-pdf creates an image pdf that is not searchable. Any suggestion? Thanks!

Re: PDF Printer / Writer for text pdf
You need to simply make a text document into pdf correct? no PDF->PDF editing?
. . Does Libre Office Writer not suit your fancy?
. . Type it up, File->Export as PDF..., tweaky tweaky, Export, done.
Ive noticed that Adobe enjoys having PDF control. Once a PDF is made it's difficult to play with unless you have their editing products. Although, I hope you or someone else can please prove that statement wrong someday.

Re: PDF Printer / Writer for text pdf
Alexander, your suggestion is ok for Libre Office, Firefox, Chrome, since they are built in with a pdf printer / writer that save text-pdfs. But when I am using other programs that don't have a built in pdf writer, I need to use Cups-pdf to create a virtual printer to print their outputs. However, Cups-pdf produces an image-pdf that is not searchable, you can´t easily highlight or extract the text, and so on... That is why I am searching for a virtual printer that makes text-pdfs from the program outputs.alexanderb0w wrote:You need to simply make a text document into pdf correct? no PDF->PDF editing?

OK, I reread it, and find other options that may be more releated to your post (get text from a PDF file, the program outputs is throwing me, since with programming options you can script out anything you wanted to..)

Re: PDF Printer / Writer for text pdf
Pistia,
. . You're right, that is a bummer. What word program are you dealing with? If it is a word document I would be extremely surprised that you couldn't save it in a .doc format, then export it from Libre to a .pdf. It sounds like you're working with scanned/extracted images, not word documents.
. . If it is an image (like scanning in text books etc) its a whole'nother story. DrHu has it right and you need a program with OCR. I haven't found a Linux program that is as friendly as Acrobat XI or whatever Nuance's version is (sad to say since I hate both). If this program of yours truly can only save files as .pdf, then a little bit of Mexican VirtualBox magic ("Adobe," get it--ha!) is a luxury to have.
Please post your results if you ever find something that you can input an image .pdf & have an OCR .pdf pop out
