Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: ooobasis3.4-en-us

Post by Jim Jensen »

Although many evaluate LibreOffice as superior to OpenOffice, I'd prefer to make that evaluation for myself. Running Mint 14.1 Cinnamon I've downloaded the Apache *tar.gz file containing the .deb s for OO, but installing fails with "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: ooobasis3.4-en-us" despite my having installed (and uninstalled/reinstalled) ooobasis3.4-en-us_3.4.1-1_amd64.deb This problem has been reported elsewhere, but I can't find any reference to it in Mint forums.

As I BTW, I think Mint 14.1 should include OO in its archives for optional user installation. Since Oracle gave it away to Apache, I feel the reasons for the fork have become moot.

[solved]

The above error occurred when I tried to install OO 3.4.1 *.deb files one at a time using the GDebi package installer (i.e. by double-clicking on the .deb files one at a time). I had been careful to install the "missing" dependency, yet the error persisted. The solution/workaround consisted in using dpkg instead of GDebi. After my previous failed attempts using GDebi, OO was partially installed. When I issued the commands
cd ~/Downloads/en-US/DEBS [the folder containing the *.deb files]
dpkg -i *.deb

The installation completed normally and OO seems to run fine.
