Would like to try Mint Debian from USB Stick

Post by nictu »

Hi Folks,

I would like to try the Debian realease of Mint from USB stick. The iso download is for dvd so even though i have burned a bootable usb stick with this iso it won't boot.
I have also done and md5 check but I can't seem to find the checksums on the mint website.
P.S. I am trying to avoid anything ubuntu as it cause boot up problems on my ASUS netbook.

Many thanks for any help,
nictu.

What program are you using to burn the iso to USB?

Using 'unetbootin' should work just fine -- at least it has for me in the past. Have you tried burning another distro with the same app and attempting to boot it the same way?

I've never gotten UNetBootin to work to actually make a bootable usb, the only program I use to write an iso is ImageWriter (usb-imagewriter) it hasn't failed me once.

Hope I understand what you mean about checksums (still a super linux and computers in general newb)
Mate 32bit: 4ebcf5ae6268bec0b26a10143e4f7b55
Mate 64bit: 90dcb75e716a791429eda16374c5ab31
Cinnamon 32bit: f0153fa28ae5a4014962046fc66156a6
Cinnamon 64 bit: 82527fd02e6f0b8458c59488a2681396

And I understand wanting to stay away from Ubuntu, any Ubuntu based OS (sadly including the Main Linux Mint) has always hated every computer I've owned.

Hope that helps somewhat :?

Unetbootin works fine with every debian distro, including Mint LMDE. I`m posting from LMDE Mate on a usb flash drive created using Unetbootin.

There isn't a lot of info to go on about why the install failed. The USB installers work fine, in general, though, so the problem is likely at your end.

I simplify everything and just install straight to the sticks, now, as if they are external hard drives.
Don't mess up your MBR doing this, however.
