LMDE on mac : can't connect to some wifi networks

Postby djihz on Sat Mar 30, 2013 1:48 pm

Hi,

I'm running a fresh and updated LMDE/cinnamon install on a 15" 2011 macbook pro laptop.

Out of the box, I was able to see and connect to the wifi network of a friend (ISP-provided router/AP, not sure about the parameters but 802.11 b or g, wpa or wpa2 personal).
At home however, I am able to see my network's ssid, but not connect to it (Netgear prosafe g access point, 802.11 g network, wpa2, fully working from win/mac devices).
I am asked to input the wpa key over and over every minute or so until I am eventually notified that the "activation of network connection failed" - and again on the next retry a few minutes later.

I checked / tried this :
-> Device Driver Manager > Wireless : "unknown driver found - please remove before installing drivers with ddm"
Hardware : Broadcom corp. NetXtreme BCM5764M Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev10)
Activated driver : firmware-brcm80211
Alternate driver : greyed out : chipset not supported (recommended)

-> I followed the procedure explained here to install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43-installer.
Install was successful, but nothing changed.

Heres mintwifi's output :

If this isn't clear yet, let me add that I have only faint notions of what I am doing, even if I am not completely lost.
I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks.
