Ethernet unplugged. How to set up Wired connection?

Postby Hmmph on Sat Mar 30, 2013 3:41 pm

Okay, I'm new to Linux. I have tried many different distros and have always had this problem. I have a wired connection. The internet works fine when I install Linux Mint 14 XFCE-64bit on a virtual machine, but it doesn't work when I dual boot with Windows 7.

It says 'Network Is Unreachable' when I ping anything and that my cable is unplugged in Network settings. It just won't detect my wired connection. I'm completely new to Linux though, am I missing something here? Is my connection supposed to automatically work since it's wired, or do I have to do something else?
