Setting up a network drive
I need to have a shared drive between an Xp machine and Maya via wifi, and have printers attached through the Xp machine. I got no idea how to do this, is it best to setup a network on the windows machine first and then attach Mint or vice versa?

I read through your post a couple of times and I think your use of the terms "network drive" and "setting up a network" are throwing me off. See if any of this answers your question:
If you want to create a share of a folder in Mint it's a lot like creating one in WinXP - Open Nemo > Right click a folder you own > Select "Sharing Options". For more information see the following:

If the WinXP machine cannot see the Mint machine or it's share then you might want to go through the checklist:

If the Mint machine cannot see or access a WInXP share that you created then go through the checklist above and if that does not resolve the issue then post the output of this diagnostic command:
