BibleTime
I've been browsing the Software Manager and came across an application called Bible Time. I've seen bible software for Windows both paid and free versions, the creators of this software could easily have charged for it but chose to take the free path. If you were looking for such software you need look no further...

I tried installing it through software manager and got nowhere, then went to the package manager where installation went smoothly

Re: BibleTime
I cannot get this to install on my netbook.
I have an older netbook that will not reliably run on anything newer than mint 11 katya.
ALL of the repositories come back as 404s in synaptic. And bibletime doesn't even appear in what it does find.

Re: BibleTime
Never mind.
I resolved the problem in probably the most unorthodox way you'll ever read. LOL
I opened synaptic.
Clicked on "reload".
When the error message opened up,
I highlighted and copied the url given.
Truncated that to just before the name of the mint version.
Pasted that into my browser.
Then looked for the next name up, in the list.
Went back to synaptic.
Clicked on "settings" >repositories >other software
Looked for the same repository as had been in the error message.
Exchanged the name in the respository url, with the one that I had seen at the actual page in the browser.
Kept this up for each repository entry, until I finally stopped getting error messages when I clicked "reload".
I think I ended up with at least three different 'version names', in that list of repositories before they all started playing nicely with each other.
Then I searched for Bibletime again, and there it was! And it installed beautifully.
One thing I really like about this program is that you can search for a specific word or sentence, and find ALL instances of it in the Bible. Gives you a great cross-reference to figure out what something likely really means instead of just what it looks like in the single context.

Re: BibleTime
Can you set it to show only one verse per line?
BTW, mine didn't come with a handbook/manual, but the site says it ships with one.
I found it on the website as a multi-page html document.
I can't seem to get these two points addressed, and today's search engines are worthless.

Re: BibleTime
Yes. In BibleTime:Can you set it to show only one verse per line?
The last icon on the right should be a pull down menu. Check the box that says "Use linebreaks after each verse".
Re: BibleTime
Thanks, bridnour.
Yeah, mine won't do that.
I use the Bibletime 3.7 Qt, so, perhaps I could
install the Bibletime 3.0.2 Flatpak instead, eh?
I tried to do a print screen, but it can't be done
while the dropdown list is in display.
So, dropdown list-wise, here is what appears:
I don't see any mention of
Did your version come with the Manual?

Re: BibleTime
I ran
(This seams to be the current version on the default repositories.)
So, it seems that I'm a bit out of date. I'll need to upgrade and see if I can find the line break option...
bibletime --version
and got BibleTime 2.11.2

I stand corrected: I am using Bibletime 3.0~focal-1.
It seems that I misread the version info.
3.7 is the Bibletime Qt rating.

We will not implement this for the stable 3.0 series of BibleTime,
but we have set the milestone to 3.1.

Re: BibleTime
Thanks for the heads up. I'll wait until 3.1 myself before upgrading.
Re: BibleTime
As far as Xiphos goes, I've installed it many times, and I keep hoping it will work out.
It seems to me that they may be putting most of their efforts into Windows versions.
Xiphos on Linux has always been too buggy and hard to deal with, in my experience.
It crashes, causes panel icons to disappear or double-up, and it flashes and blinks
some of the splashes and tooltips instead of displaying them properly.
It just happened again, so it is gone.
