Nvidia Driver not working

Post by BrokenJpg »

So I have an MSI Lapto CX61 Running and Intel Core i7 chipset with a nvidia GeForce 645m graphics card. I am not seeing the Nvidia driver in the additional drivers and wen I look at the details in Mint 14, it says my graphics card is ivy bridge Moble. How do I change it to use my Nvidia Card? I trid to use bumblebee but that didn't seem to sovle the issue.

Thaks for your help

Hello BrokenJpg and Welcome to Mint,
According to Nvidia that card should be able to use the 304.xx driver.
Try manually installing it from synaptic package manager. see if it works.
go to menu>administration>synaptic and do a search for nvidia the choose the 304 (with updates) and install it.
good luck.

I second that advice, that is what I would try.

Thanks for the help, but that did not work. It Seems linux mint is recognizing my video car as Intel IvyBridge mobile. I am confused as to why Mint is not seeing the Nividia Card.

Well there are a couple possibilities for this. one is that you have one of the new multimode cards. that will require you to use bumblebee driver.

can you go to a terminal and type the following and list the results here?

Code: Select all

lspci
That will give us a better Idea of what card we are dealing with.
if in fact your card is an optimist card you will need to go here and follow the instructions for ubuntu.
