Mint 13, Mint 14 DVD's unbootable - Compatibility mode loops

Post by BaltimoreBoy »

Situation:
Processor : 2x AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+
Memory : 8195MB
Operating System : Linux Mint 11 Katya (STAND ALONE)
Resolution : 1920x1080 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : GeForce 8500 GT/PCI/SSE2
-SCSI Disks-
ATA WDC WD6401AALS-0
ATA WDC WD800JD-23JN
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-115D

System will boot from Mint 11 or Mint 12 boot DVD's
Will not boot from either 13 or 14.
Even choosing compatability mode drives the system into a loop displaying this message:
UDEVD[95]: Timeout: killing '/sbin/modprobe - bv pci:v000010Ded00000054sv0000 1043 SD0000815 Abc01sc01;'85' [231]

only way out of the loop is power on reset.

It is not a new machine(4 yrs old), it has never been sullied by any version of windows and has happily run earlier versions of Mint (8,9,11).

Any thoughts?

How did you make the discs?
I assume you burned an ISO image?
Do the discs boot on any other machine?
I was never able to make a successful boot disc using Brasero. I now use XFburn and have had no further problems.

Well, I tried your suggestion Jeff, and used another burner. Unfortunately no joy.

I have tried 13 Cinnamon, 13 Mate, 13 Xfce, 14 cinnamon, and LMDE.
I even tried the 32 bit version to see if that made a difference. No dice.

To me this is bizarre. I have had trouble free installations of Mint from 8 through 11, now I can't even get an install disk to boot, much less install. Maybe I need to try the underlying Ubuntu release to check it out.
