Live CD problems

Post by blind0516 »

I'm a new linux user, or trying to be. i have downloaded the live CD and burnt the iso on to a CD-R but after i restart a copyright screen flashes and nothing. just a blank screen, i tried re burning it on the slowest speed but that didn't help. I'm running on a Sony Vaio from 2004, like 1GB ram and a ATI Radeon X300. What could the problem be?

It could be the X300 or a bad ISO. Did you check the md5sum? In Windows you need to install some third party program to do that (google md5sum to get one)
Don't forget to use "Safe graphics mode"

Best MD5 sum utility for Windows, even works in Vista. Easy and intuitive GUI and has a compare feature..

Did you burn as image or as data cd?
Not to imply that you do not know how to do this, but many make this mistake.

Did you try booting the cd as described here in the wiki?
