Black line under some icons in system tray

Postby aalemann on Fri Feb 22, 2013 6:18 am

Hi, I have a problems with a few icons in my system tray / notification area: After a while, a black line appears under them.
Any ideas on this?

I can confirm - it happens when I unplug my power adapter or get most of the system notifications (they don't appear, only the black line at the bottom).

This is still a problem in Linux Mint 14:

The icons with this problem all seem to be KDE/Qt-based: RSI Break, Skype, VLC.

It'd still be nice if there was a fix!

Can anyone confirm if it's still present in MATE 1.6? (I'm not updating to it yet - will wait for the updated mintMenu to be released.)

neither does it work me, strange (it worked when I started this post).
However, attached is a new screenshot.

And I also found out that I can get rid of that black line if I resize the panel by 1 or more pixel (Panel Properties --> General --> Size). Seems to be a graphical error...?

Any idea on this?

I have the same issue and have found that this appears when an icon located just over than other icons

the vlc icon without any black line

the vlc icon just over than others and the black line appears

I suspect this happens with QT based apps only like VLC, Skype.

Sounds like it is not fixed in MATE 1.6 ?

Yeah, this is still present in MATE 1.6 (tested in Olivia RC).

Not every Qt app is affected. For example, skype and hplip-gui have their icons shifted to the upper border (provided that the panel itself is at the bottom of the desktop) and there's a black block under them. At the same time, transmission-qt and vlc have their icons centered and there are no black blocks.
The black block doesn't appear until you run some other app which places its icon at the tray.

The problem disappears if you resize the panel. You may resize it back right after that, things will be settled unless you close the problem app and start it again.

Yes, I just summed it up about how things are now. What's unusual is that not all the Qt apps cause the problem. The issue has been reported here but there's no reply yet.
