Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
I have a Lexmark X4650 and have had it printing wireless before using Mint 10, 11 GNOME. Recently installed Mint 13 XFCE and try to install drivers from lexmark and only available are for mint 11. But the install of the drivers fails, even tho I did run as root. Unfortunately I can not see and post what the errors are as they scroll off the screen and the window scroll bar locked. As soon as you click ok in the failed screen, window goes away. Is there a way to extract the 3600-4600 driver from the downloaded file from lexmark and manually install? Does someone have a link to just the driver file and not the driver installation script? What would those steps be?
I can see the printer printer wirelessly but just missing the driver.
Thanks for the help.

No I downloaded the file for Mint 11 lexmark-08z-series-driver-1.0-1.i386.deb.sh.tar.gz. Same file worked for Mint 11.
Ran the file you posted and got this.

(SOLVED Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install dri
Found a solution and was super easy except finding the file. This thread helped: http://askubuntu.com/questions/130516/h ... 75-printer
Go here: http://www.mediafire.com/?yowom7gh6vg4fzl
Download the .deb file (already fixed for the error)
open with gdebi package installer and install
Menu, administration, printing, network, Appsocket/HP JetDirect, type IP address of printer, click forward, choose lexmark, choose 3600-4600, print test page, success!!!
Please make this sticky for easy access for others!

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
Great! Enjoy!
...........we both found the same solution.......the new version of dpkg doesn't like blank lines ...........so changing
I guess some would say you have to be sure that mediafire is a sound source of a .deb package; some very suspicious souls would say that anyone wanting to load bad things onto your computer, could hide them in a .deb package that you install;
I downloaded the official lexmark .tar.gz file; apart from that its name is now 0.9 instead of 0.8 as in ArchBird's blog, I was able to edit and rebuild the lexmark package; it was just copy and paste (and a little edit............)
glad you got your lexmark printer going....................enjoy

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
I got the same problem I think????
Got a Lexmark Z2300 Printer
Can't get it working...
I had a look at the above but couldn't make much sense of it?
Can someone spell it out in easy steps for someone with no Linux nouse?
Cheers,
Dave.

so Dave:
if you go here
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=c ... &locale=en
and download lexmark_inkjet_09_driver_1.0_1.i386_ts.deb.sh.tar.gz
......which if you choose the SAVE option should come into your Downloads folder..
and then open a terminal: by going to Menu (bottom-left); then up to terminal and if you use the command
then
then if the file you download has the same numbers as I quote above, copy and paste the following command
..........how does that all go for you?

then
asks the system to list what is in the directory so you should see the lexmark package ....ls
then if the file you download has the same numbers as I quote above, copy and paste the following command
then having unpacked it, the command to start the install script running istar -zxvf lexmark_inkjet_09_driver_1.0_1.i386_ts.deb.sh.tar.gz
then Lexmark say follow the instructions on the screen........sudo ./lexmark_inkjet_09_driver_1.0_1.i386_ts.deb.sh
..........how does that all go for you?
Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
I downloaded and unpacked and ran the script....
But it falls over with an error saying there is an unexpected blank line.
I found another thread where someone had the same problem, but they (annoyingly) said they fiddled about and sorted that and got it to work!
I wouldn't know where to start 'fiddling about' to sort that problem...

Didn't you also say:-
" I was able to edit and rebuild the lexmark package; it was just copy and paste (and a little edit............)"
I wouldn't know where/how to start doing that...

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
hotduster points you to a corrected version of the package on mediafire:
that might be the easiest; always a risk of something malevolent in it, but unlikely
I did work my way through Archbird's post and edit the file; but I would have to retrace my steps; and I have to work now
I can email you the file that I believe is now cleansed of its error if you send me a private messagewith your email address: so you either trust the above or me;

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
The mediafire deb file doesn't have the model z2300 in it, so I can't set-up my printer (z2300)
The .sh script might work, (apparently it's FOR a z2300 or x4650) but I can't get round the problem with the blank lines in the 'control' file.
EVEN THOUGH I EXPLICITLY FOLLOWED ARCHBIRDS INSTRUCTIONS and managed to edit the file, there must still be a copy somewhere with the blank line still in it as I still get the same problem.

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
OK I guess what I'm asking here now is do I need to buy a new printer in order to use Linux Mint?
Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
It looks like your X4650, z2300 printer is only compatible up to Mint 11, not Mint 13.
see the compatiblilty list here for Linux inkjet...
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=o ... cale=EN_US
FYI: Look here to find drivers from Lexmark:
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=p ... cale=EN_US
So you'd have to install an earlier version of Mint or get a new printer... unless you can find a generic driver somewhere...

Re: Mint 13 XFCE + Lexmark x4650 = failed to install drivers
Thanks for the replies....
I would get a new printer, but I got a bunch of cartridges for this one & I can't bring myself to waste them or to go through the hassle of selling all the stuff....
So I thought I'd attach the printer to a Windows box & network it so Linux can print to it that way.
But I can't get CUPS to see it.
I have another thread that no one seems to be responding to, so I'm thinking there are no CUPS people in the forum?
I'm really greateful for all the help, but boy is this a slow way to get anything done!
