I think there's an option to just use your download with you browser. Installing the amazon download manager isn't worth it even on a Windows system IMO.
If you're using Firefox, install DownThemAll. It's one of, if not the best, download managers available for free.

you search in the Mozilla add-ons database. Search for tutorials, or even read the Firefox help pages.
