Suggestion: Wallpaper of the Week

Postby Jernau on Sat Apr 19, 2008 8:02 am

I've been thinking about different ways that we can utilize the forum and the wiki; one of the ideas I came up with was for us to implement a 'Wallpaper of the Week'... here's how it could work:
  1. At the end of each week a Mint Art-Team member collects all of the new wallpapers posted that week (that meet our format requirements)
  2. They make a (stickied?) post in the Wallpaper forum containing previews and links to all of the wallpapers, plus a poll for people to vote for their favourite
  3. Everyone votes and after a set amount of time (two days?) the poll closes and the winner is announced (in a new post?)
  4. The winning wallpaper is added to the 'Wallpaper of the Week' archive in the Mint Art section of the wiki
I think this idea has a couple of things going for it:
  1. Gets the community involved with the Art-Team
  2. Highlights the work our artists are producing for people who don't spend all their time in the wallpaper forum
  3. Stops the wiki being overloaded with too much artwork
  4. Gives a nice bite-sized Mint Art-Team piece to put in the newsletter
What do you think?

When I hear back from McLovin about the final set of Mint Art-Team requirements for wallpapers then I can start to organize the poll (if nobody minds me taking the lead on this).

I just submitted five new wallpapers; they aren't the best (nor would I expect them to win anything) but I'd love to participate.

You may have seen that I've created this weeks 'Wallpaper of the Week' voting polls in the Wallpaper forum. Unfortunately I had to put it across two posts because of the phpBB restriction on number of poll entries; so it will be an interesting experiment to see if the voting works.

One alternative could be to forgo the built in poll system entirely and just create one post where people reply with their choice? The downside to this of course is that people lose anonymity and it could put people off voting...

You made some nice wallpapers, but unfortunately because you didn't create both Gnome and KDE versions they weren't eligable for 'Wallpaper of the Week'. If you can make high resolution, widescreen and normal aspect ratio, and Gnome and KDE versions of them then they will be entered into next weeks vote. :)
