Hi there. New to using Linux. Wonder why linux has not gained more success.

Yup, Linux should be the second choice after a windows OS version
--then again, we don't exist on any specific platform, no volume OEM contracts: nothing we can do about, business at work

- But PC shipments are down 14%
--looks like many users are going to some PDA style device: smartphone, tablets and so on
- --I also don't particularly like widescreen, except for movies: I still large prefer square LCD/LED (or oled) monitors, and don't mind widescreen bars top/bottom when playing a movie..

Welcome to the Mint family forums
although the linux family of operating systems is not as popular as the big 2 on desktops across the world there are many government departments and educational establishments only use one or other Linux systems, and not forgetting that Android, on phones and tablets is also has a Linux core
