Mint 13 xfce - suspend not working

Post by madwoollything »

I've just installed a fresh copy of Mint 13 XFCE. Suspend was working fine in an older version of Mint on this box.

How do I get suspend working again? Any suggestions? (I've tried turning off acpm)

(I've seen references to problems with suspend in Mint 13 but have not be able to find any solutions.
Further investigation with live cds for Ubuntu 12.04, Mint13 Cinnamon, Mint 13 Mate - none of these live CDs will suspend on this machine)

Thanks

Re: Mint seems to have an endemic problem with suspend

Lots of people are having this problem in 14 and no expert ever chimes in with any solution. Users have commented that the developers can't fix it but that it should be resolved "upstream" sometime. Hopefully. But no updates from update manager, or terminal (running apt get update, or install or upgrade) ever fixed it.

I have had this problem with 14 since installation and nothing seemed to cure it but I will say that yesterday I went into the power settings and came out again (without changing anything, 'cos I had already changed whatever I wanted and nothing had changed so I didnt change anything) and today, suddenly the computer springs to life on hitting the power button from suspend!!

I hadnt applied any updates at all and none have shown up automatically but suddenly suspend works. Curiously I have checked and while the hard drive does seem to spin down in suspend, spin down hard drive isnt checked in the power settings

You might like to start using 14? I gave up on 13 when I couldnt get touchpad tap-to-click (which is so important that it should be enabled by default) to work and there is a helpful very elderly bug report on it with no suggestion of any cure or workaround.

Thanks for the update ..... I'm sticking with Mint 13 on this box as I need stability.

I hear ya!

I wasnt going to respond that i found 14 reasonably stable 'cos I didnt think my finding it stable meant anything.

But now after precisely 2 days of working properly, wake-from-suspend has mysteriously stopped again. And something in a recent update has stopped Firefox from connecting to the Internet. I had to install Konqueror to get a few browsers working at once.

But how do you live with no tap-to-click function in 13? Or is it only really usable with a mouse?

i had had 12 working absolutely fine and stably on an old Asus which destroyed its power socket recently so I have been experimenting with other OSs on this Gateway. At this stage I will probably hold on to 14 not working properly for a few more weeks and then try 15 to see how it works when issued.

UPDATE- suspend IS working, it is the screen which wont wake

UPDATE- suspend IS working, it may be just the screen which wont wake up from suspend.

(or suspend will stop working within a day or so again??)
