Two questios:
How did you try to install?
Did you use synaptic Package Manager?

If I were you I would install Acidrip and dvdrip and see what happens, usually they will install a lot of library's if you are lucky it will work, try this easy solution first,
one more question do you have your system updated?, if not do that first.
