mint4win and wubi both?

Post by tyhee88 »

I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.

On it is installed Xubuntu 12.04 using Wubi. I want to leave Xubuntu there and also try an installation of Mint 13 Mate 64 bit using mint4win. That is, I want to try Mint 13 inside Windows without losing my Xubuntu installation which was also done inside Windows.

Am I able to install Mint 13 (64 bit, Mate) using mint4win in the usual fashion from Windows or will I run into troubles with the Wubi installation of Xubuntu?

Thanks.

Bob

I haven't used mint4win for quite a while, but I usually recommend using a virtual machine for testing. You have save states and other nice features without the need to reboot. You can also delete distros if you don't like them and install as many as you like.

For actually using the system, dual booting is much better than mint4win, wubi, or a virtual machine. It's also more difficult than the other options, but it's significantly faster.

I'll post again and hope for an answer to the question asked, without going through the reasons for asking the question. The earlier response didn't attempt to answer the question, just tried to set out alternatives which I'd already considered and rejected.

The reason I suggested alternatives is I don't think you can easily have multiple wubi installations. Reading the Wubi guide, it does seem it is possible though. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide

It seems there is a way, but you will have to modify all the commands to fit your system. http://askubuntu.com/questions/129149/h ... buntu-wubi

Here is a thread you might want to look at before installing via mint4win. http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=131379
