Hi everyone,
I know you've seen posts about installing graphics drivers a million times, but I'm kinda getting desperate here. I've tried everything I can, and I have no idea how to proceed.
The installation methods I have tried:
The Debian way: http://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers
The SGFXI script: http://smxi.org/
The binary install: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-disp ... river.html
When installing either using the Debian method or the binary method, my laptop reboots into a blue screen showing a message that X couldn't start, and a log file is shown. The log file says "No monitors found." I fix this problem by pressing CTRL + ALT + F1, and deleting /etc/X11/xorg.conf. On reboot, everything is back to normal. One suggestion I found was to manually add 'busID "PCI:1:0:0" into the xorg.conf file, but this didn't help.
When trying to install with the sgfxi script, the computer freezes at the boot process. I see the first 3 or 4 lines of the boot process, and then it freezes. Again, I can boot back normally once I remove the xorg.conf file.
The graphics card I'm using is the GeForce 635m, on LMDE Cinnamon 64 bit. All my software is up to date.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Re: Nvidia driver won't install
share with us the output of
(your card has optimus technology meaning that has 2 gpu's, meaning that you can't install the drivers the normal way)
you have to use http://suwako.nomanga.net/ (and i recommend a clean install without previous debris from failed attempts)
Code: Select all
inxi -Gx

Bumblebee is working properly, thank you very much.
A couple of quick questions: does Bumblebee come bundled with drivers, or does it rely on already installed drivers? If it's the latter, then how can I ensure my drivers stay up to date?
