Can anyone make us more Cinnamon effects?

Post by Brahim Salem »

Because Linux Mint team work to a tight schedule, they don't have enough time to add eyecandy tweaks to Mint. Cinnamon is now one of the best DE's in terms of stability and responsiveness? but in terms of eyecandy it still needs some tweaks. We need to pimp it guys. So to all talented users plz try to create some Cinnamon effects and submit them to Mint dev. team :D :D
it would be great if we can have compiz-like effects on Cinnamon without the compiz hiccups we know. Something like A water/dew minimize effects I mean something splashy and minty :D

This is a personal initiative and not an official Mint announcement

Naw mdm is just a toy for me, it gave me a break in between my other stuff I do. I enjoy it and will make more though.
Clem is great at them and way beyond what I am as far as coding goes, (years and years ahead of me), I really like the clouds one he did, and cdustybk made a fantastic theme also, it's just I've been the main one making them so far that's all, I can't wait to see more jump on board with it, I love seeing other artist work or other programmers creations.
It doesn't really take long to learn the stuff either and once you got the hang of a few things the other stuff comes easier also, it's just getting over the intital hump.
Just like if you learn one object oriented programming language (OOP), like C++ or java or python etc, learning another one isn't as hard, they all got the same operators, datatypes, etc etc pretty much in all of them, (of course you got more to learn in C++ with the header files etc) but if you get over the intital hump of one language they all come easier after that.
For the mdm, applets, desklets stuff javascript is needed but it's pretty much one of the simplest languages to learn, know html and css already ( just see examples of css animation) is got the code already for you and is really straight forward stuff.
basic instructions tutorials that can get anyone on their way http://www.w3schools.com/css3/css3_animations.asp
and basic javascript tutorials as well here: http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp
if you want to go for jquery as an add on then here: http://www.w3schools.com/jquery/default.asp
pretty much all you need to get you going to make toys for mint :D
Then you can become webmaster geekazoid 8)
learn php/mySql and make some components or plugins for joomla and make some money on the side 8)
I never did go that route, maybe I should of, I used to program a lot in php/mySql years ago. Just don't forget to contribute back to linux with what ya learn :D

ya it gets addictive after you start making stuff.
once you learn jquery and javascript it's not that big of a jump to java from there, depending on where you go from there, swing, applets (swings better) or apps for cell phones etc.
or go the other route, html css javascript jquery, php/mysql for webmaster stuff, you can also make html5 apps for cell phones and tablets. (oh ya xml also but that's all just nodes and data stuff and only takes a little bit to learn it, it's super easy to learn which is why I really don't mention it)
If you want to go full out programming then take your pick (C, C++, qt-sdk is a nice start and has some great tutorials added in the ide and uses C++, python has gotten a ton of momentum and a great one to learn that can be used all over the place)
but to make toys for mint then the webmaster stuff is good :D
One thing I liked was when it switched over to this, makes it a lot easier for folks to make stuff now and get more on board with it.
