Sound applet stopped working with audacious LMDE cinnamon1.8

Hi community, i'm using lmde with cinnamon 1.8 and sound applet sundely stopped working with audacious, it works ok with banshee.

when I start audacious, the icon keeps the same and show a empty bubble on click, I can't controle volume either. When audacius is closed the icon can be clicked again.

What could be wrong?

Oddly enough, I have the same issue, but rather with Clementine under Archlinux, and the aforementioned fix does not seem to work. Anyone else have any ideas?
