Mint 15 - Wallpaper wouldn't show up until I open Nemo

Mint 15

I changed the wallpaper to an image that is stored on a data partition of my hard drive. When I now log into Mint it will display an empty (black) screen until I open Nemo. This will then trigger the display of the wallpaper.

Before I open Nemo I used the terminal to confirm that the data partition is mounted correctly.

Any ideas?

same thing is happening to me ...

I've changed the wallpaper to a jpg file contained with a directory called 'wallpapers', which is inside the home directory
- home directory contained on local disk.

click nemo and the wallpaper comes up, however,
... sometimes the standard icons [ my computer, home, network, trash ] are not showing, but the additional icons that I have created on the desktop are there.

sounds like a Nemo problem ?
- something to do with the recent update possibly ?

I have had this twice in the last 24 hours, and I use a stock wallpaper.
My Nemo is Nemo-dropbox version.

I too am having the same problem with no wallpaper on logging in until I then launch nemo

Just wanted to tag on. Wallpaper not working on login, opening filemanager nemo fixes the issue but it is a persistant bug, and seems to be hit or miss on every login.

Fairly fresh mint 15 install, cinnamon 1.8.8

Just adding my 2 cents in as well....it's also doing the same in Mint 14 (I just recently downgraded from 15 as I couldn't get my Brother HL-2140 printer to work after spending hrs in the forums...)

Had the same problem some days ago. Thought, that it was fixed after updating several times throughout the whole last week. The problem came back today, so it seems that a) it wasn't fixed by the latest updates and b) this bug also does not appear on every startup for me.

Specs: Linux Mint 15 x64, Cinnamon, not so freshly installed on a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge S430.

EDIT:
It seems I found a solution. Just reinstall Nemo. After a couple of minutes doing some research, I found that it seems to be a problem connected to Nemo doing some weird things.
After:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall nemo

the desktop seems to be back on every boot. Can't exactly say what the problem was or is but it worked for me.

Workaround idea:

if you always have to open nemo, so that the desktop shows up, why not just let it start up and close nemo again on boot.

in /etc/rc.local i added

nemo --quit
nemo
nemo --quit

Not the greatest idea but, well, better than nothing.

Tested it now with several reboots, shutdowns and booting from a cold system and it seems to work for now.
Does this work for you, too?

what did work was deleting ~/.config/nemo and ~/.config/cinnamon then rebooting (or log out/in)

some config. setting must have got stuck during an update or so i guess.

Tried that, too, and it seems to work now.

Same problem when the power bar got turned off. Whoops. Haven't done that for years.

Tried re-installing Nemo; deleting ~/.config/nemo; logging out and back in. No luck.

For some reason my system doesn't have ~/.config/cinnamon.

Any more ideas?
