Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (roguelike)

Post by xenopeek »

Just wanted to throw this out here; I was looking around for something RPG-like and somehow, I believe through Linux game database, I ended up with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (DCSS)--a roguelike game. It's a ton of fun, though so far I've managed only to get my heroes killed in action. But that doesn't detract from the fun :) The interface is much better than NetHack, which I never really got in to. It also has very good documentation on everything you need to know right in the game and has an active development community.

If you think you might enjoy it, give it a look: http://crawl.develz.org/. See the screenshots section for look at the console version and the tiles version. I like the console version better, but the tiles version is also very nice if you want a graphical front-end. You can install the package crawl to get the console version of the game, which you start with the command crawl, or you can install the package crawl-tiles and you'll find "Dungeon Crawl" in your games menu to start it.

To get a newer version of the game, I added their repository first. You can do so with these three commands:

Code: Select all

echo deb http://crawl.develz.org/debian crawl 0.12 | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list/crawl.list
wget http://crawl.develz.org/debian/pubkey -O - | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
