I'm a little disappointed by the fact that Clem choose the name alone :D
But it's a nice choice...

With a Q :

Quataryna
Qëndresa
Quatalina
Qayla
Quintelina

These posts moved here from viewtopic.php?f=60&t=137501. The Linux Mint 16 name was already announced, so jumping ahead you can make suggestions for Linux Mint 17 instead. Remember: female name starting with the letter Q.

Three that I like: Qadira - Arabic meaning powerful. Querida - Spanish meaning "The beloved one". Qayla - Origin and meaning unsure. It could be a variation of Kayla an Irish/Gaelic word meaning slim and fair.

And ending with 'a', that adds some more difficulty :)

Actually, I thought there would be a lot less names than already listed here. The question is, how many of them are really given to someone? :)

I forgot that part, oops (http://www.linuxmint.com/oldreleases.php). Except for Quinn, all the suggestions made so far follow the unwritten rule :)

I like Qadira or Qayla.

I've known some ladies had the name "Queen". Variants are Queena and Queenie. Maybe even try Queenah. That would be cool!

Here's some of my other favorites:

Quinella
Quinese
Quyen (which is I guess Vietnamese for "Little Songbird")

I also like Cypherhack's suggestion of Quintessa.

how about something a little more down-home this time, or perhaps humorous or at least tongue-in-cheek;

quarterback
quiet
questionable

coming up with greek gods or obscure definitions alluding to grandiosity grows tiresome after a while.

edit: oh, i, too, forgot the unspoken rule. hmmm. maybe for "q" it could be broken!

edit2: and it has to be a female name? blech. usually i read threads more carefully before replying. i still vote for "questionable", as in "the Questionable release of Linux Mint"

Mint installed on my still-rockin' budget build from '08:
3ghz Athlon 64 dualcore on DFI LP DK w/ 8g DDR2, GeForce GTX 760 & Turtle Beach Riviera

Win7 on my lite build of 2012:
3.1ghz i3 dualcore on Biostar H61 w/ 8g DDR3, Crucial M4 128g SSD

I read Ramya as "Ranma". Obvious implications. 8) Qayla or Qadira are great options.

Mint 17 will be a LTS distribution, just like Mint 13.
The name of Mint 13 is Maya. A name from an ancient culture.
What about Quiana for Linux Mint 17?
It's an indian name. Also from an ancient culture and it sound something mystical, just like Maya.

Quorra
from Italian (or Latin, I don't remember) origin means Heart :D

edit: As for Mint 18 I suggest Reva, means "Strength"

Re: Linux Mint 17 Name! Starts with Q

Googled female names beginning with Q and found a rather short list... while browsing the list, I found a name that I have heard only once before on the old American TV show "The Addams Family"... did some more research and found the name is of Spanish origin and according to the Unofficial Addams Family website it means "the woman I desire"... I thought, what better name for Mint 17?..

So my nomination for the code name for the next LTS version of Linux Mint (17) is Querida.
Procrastinate now!
