I previously installed Mint 14, and attempted to install native drivers and issue here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=120216&p=661781#p661781
The fix I was referred to was in: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=119819
I followed same instructions so that machine will run cooler, but the fix seem to completely hose up system and xserver would not start.
I had to reinstall back to clean Mint 15 install to get graphics to work and it is now running very hot.

I don't know if there is a way to get native drivers working and machine cooler, or if I need to fallback to Mint 14.
Thanks

Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
So in reading more entries on the forum, I have come to the conclusion, rightly or wrongly, that native ATI drivers are no longer a practical option with Mint 15.
That means I either put up with laptop running hot or fallback to Mint 14.

Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
Appears you have hybrid Intel/AMD graphics -- which is a serious problem, not easily fixed. Read through the thread for suggestions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450&highlight=switchable+graphics
Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
Thank you for the info. I followed the instructions there, but xserver failed on reboot.
Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
I also tried using mintdrivers to switch to fglrx and fglrx-updates drivers. It did successfully reboot and start xserver, but cinnamon crashed and would not function correctly. I seem to be running out of options.
Re: Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
I any of the instructions you used, have you downgraded your Intel driver? There is a bug where newer Intel drivers don't work with Catalyst 3.4 (which you need due to Mint 15 using 3.8 kernel).
Can you post the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log? I'm reluctant to tell you to just downgrade your Intel driver without checking first.

[SOLVED]Mint 15 Upgrade Intel Hybrid/ATI 3D not working
I had lost a whole day of work trying to resolve this issue so I reinstalled Mint 14 and applied the original fixes. Those did not work this time for some reason, but fortunately the Catalyst 3.4 drivers did work, where earlier versions did not. So I now have a working and cooler laptop running Mint 14. I will re-attempt upgrade to Mint 15, or later, when the bugs for the hybrid cards get worked out.
Thanks for the help.
