Hello!
So here is a very odd situation. I'm using Mint 13 Maya on a netbook, a Windows 7 on a laptop and a tablet pc. All of them sharing a Wifi network at home.
When I'm connected to the network with Mint, the internet connection goes very very slow on the other devices connected to the network. If I disable the networking or (shut down), the other devices get regular speed, and, if I enable the networking again, the other devices go slow again.. It appears that Mint is taking most of the bandwidth or something like that (not downloading, torrent, streaming, etc)
Any ideas!!?
Thanks!!!!!

Hello, oraugle.
You should launch the management console or management web-interface of your router and watch what is going on when the Mint 13 machine enters the network.
There might be a problem with the wifi adapter of the Mint 13 netbook. There might be a network driver issue. Some other strange things might be going on on the Mint 13 machine.
All I can assure you is that the problem which you see is not typical of Mint 13. My wife frequently uses her Windows 7 notebook in order to surf the web while my Mint 13 system is connected to the same router. No problem.
Kind regards,
Karl

There is a panel application called netspeed that you can add. If you add it, do you see much activity when you system is idle?
Do the other computers slow down when your machine is hard-wire connected and the wireless is disabled?

I do not know what causes this, but this post is not the first to state this problem. I have seen it posted a few times on Ubuntu forums as well.

Thanks for your reply guys, I have tried netspeed, but did not find out any unusual activity when idle. I have logged into the router panel and reviewed the settings as well. Everything seems to be OK. I will do some testing with the wifi driver. I will post the result
Thanks!

Just an update. I could not find any solution to this. I jumped to KUbuntu which works great on my Asus EEE PC 1015pn, and the issue disappeared. The mystery is unsolved for me
