It sounds as if you might have a bad CD. Did you burn the CD s-l-o-w, 4X - 8X, in a RAW mode? RAW modes are usually listed as SAO, TAO, or DAO.
After the burn is complete check the MD5 sum of the burned CD against the one published on the Mint download site for that version.
At least that would be my first guess anyway.
