The live CD is not supposed to ask for password
This is a bad CD
As you could install with mint4win the disk might have been scratched or so after the install
But even if you succeeded before it could (although not likely) be a bad download or a bad burn
I have seen people get stuck halfway down the install because of a bad CD
Check the md5sum of the ISO and burn as slow as possible

A bad disk can behave in a large number of ways depending on what is "bad" and how, so it's not just copying

Resurrection of an old thread, but I'm having the same problem with Mint 15 KDE 64-bit. The MD5 of the downloaded ISO matches exactly the MD5 of the original (38dd24371ceafe34915eb5cb350217c7). I'm trying to run Mint 15 in VirtualBox under Mac OS X 10.6.8 (64-bit kernel and extensions). What is puzzling is that Mint 12 KDE 64-bit works perfectly in the same Virtual Box, as does Mint 15 Mate 64-bit.

Where am I going wrong, do you think?
