No driver for my SuYin webcam ? Linux Mint 13 Maya

Postby Bolbi on Mon Aug 26, 2013 2:42 pm

Hello everybody,

I am using a 4years old labtop, which brand is Emachine (quite unknown...).
I have tryed everything I could to make my webcam, that is integrated in, work, but I can't fix it.

Here is what I know about it :

Code: Select all
$ lsusb
...
Bus 001 Device 025: ID 064e:a103 Suyin Corp. Acer/HP Integrated Webcam [CN0314]

I have installed Cheese and some other apps, hoping their dependencies would fix my probleme.
when I start cheese, it says "no device found".
I installed few library packages with synaptic, hoping my random selection would do the trick, but I failed.

Does anyone can help me ?

Check this site for generic drivers. As you can see in the screenshot you're very lucky  Your device is supported!

Great ! that makes it easier :D

But could you give me this site adress ? i couldn't find it by myself...
I guess I will have to download it, and then install it. Is it a .deb package, or will I have to install it manually ?

Anyway, thank you very much for your quick answer !

I found the website, went on it, did everything they said.
I read the tutorial, and installed the library it requires.

I used the ./build command, as said.

I seemed to work nicely, with a cute smile in my terminal and on ma face :) ... until that !

Code: Select all
/home/jack/media_build/v4l/tvp7002.c: In function 'tvp7002_get_pdata':
/home/jack/media_build/v4l/tvp7002.c:986:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'of_node_put' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]

make[1]: *** [default] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jack/media_build/v4l'
make: *** [all] Error 2
build failed at ./build line 454.

I don't know what i can do against so much hatred :(

Maybe you will need the complete output. I put it in the .rtf file.

Hello everybody, I have some news.

I tryed to find another way making my webcam work.
I went in the "System Setting" app > "Color" button.

There, i found my printers and... SuYin - Webcam !
I pressed "Calibrate", installed the 2softwares it required (argyll and gnome-color-manager).
Now, it asks me :
What Traget type do you have ?
Before profiling the device, you have to manually capture an image of calibration target and save it as a TIFF image file.

Please select the calibration target type.

There is a screenshot of this window, with the choice i can make.

  • What is a calibration image ?
  • Is it a solution to my problem, or is a driver missing anyway ?

PS : i tried to continue without any calibration image (whatever it is), but it is finaly required later.

I have another webcam that is not working. I made another post here.

If you have time, I would be grateful if you have a look.

maybe i made something wrong running the ./build command, but i can't make it run until the end of the script.

I tryed it, and it didn't work.

Gucview error :
Unable to find device.

Please make sure the camera is connected and all the correct drivers are installed

But what I have seen of this software seems nice. It didn't make it work, but i keep it for later.
Thank you :)

Please, do not link one post to another. Keep both webcam problems separate from each other. Linking to other post can make this issue really confusing and isn't really productive in helping you out.

Sorry, i won't do it again :)

But the fact is, i cannot buil the driver despite all my research. And this for one webcam or another. I just cannot build the binary file, though i resolved all depedences.
Do you know what to do ?

When you built from source, do you get any error messages at the end? This must be cleary mentioned in the terminal. It's good to copy/paste those message here.

The fact is i did post the terminal output few days ago.

Haven't you seen this post, in this topic ?
I even made a .rtf file with all the messages the command returned.

And two messages ago, it was a link to the same topic, by the way.
It should not be too confusing.

I'm still a bit foggy in my head.....alcohol fog.....
I'm not an expert on coding and stuff, but to me it looks like some lines were coded the wrong way.

That's what i understood too. :)

But my poor myself isn't good enought to write it alone (isn't he, my treasure ?).
That is the reason why i tryed to find another way, and found gnome-color-manager.
Still looking an answer with another way.
