This is a great resource.

I thought this may be of help to some. Make sure you use the right versions depending on the system's base.

Got a bit confused, just saw apt-get remove and then it listed a ton of the codecs regularly used for multimedia, a closer inspection revealed the && apt-get install :D
Anyway great link.

Isn't most or all of this stuff already set up in Mint by default? Most of the time when I am having trouble with DVD playback I just disable 3D effects.

Yes, but people do occasionally run into problems and that link holds a lot of answers to common problems.

There is a setting in Nautilus where you can tell it not to play sample sounds.

Open Nautilus, then Edit, Preferences, Preview tab, change "preview sound files:" to "Never" from the drop down dialogue. This will turn off the feature.

I've no problem with gnome version, and VLC, but with the new KDE version I'm testing, DRAGON play all, but VLC only play video without sound for flash and mp4 files.

Also Firefox doesn't play sound of flash videos, but if I download it with download helper dragon does.

I did download multimedia codecs, and it still persists.

there are some bug at any config file, but where?

Only problem I've seen so far is that one time even though I closed the browser window, the music kept playing. I rebooted the computer to make it stop (because I was too lazy to look for the process to kill).

It was actually the first time in a while that I saw this. Seems Linux still has some issues with gracious killing of processes.

Jukebox muzicplayer Ubuntu gmusicbrowser

Jukebox music player Ubuntu on a system

In an all kinds of topic, many solutions exist in playing our musics so Ubuntu on a system. I present an opportunity as we may choose from our music collection on a much clearer manner hereby.
1) Download and setup
Let us install it in a Synaptic packet handler the gmusicbrowser name packet, or Terminál with the help of the undermentioned command:
sudo apt-get install gmusicbrowser

2) Usage

Let us start it the applications -> sound and video -> gmusicbrowser from a menu item.
Let us click on the appearing little window on the icon row screwdriver which can be found onto an icon to the customization of the settings. The primary one, library inscription we may add our libraries implying musics which can be hit on an ear on the computer to it Ad folder inscription clicking on a button. After we were ready, worthy search after the modified one and deleted numbers at the time of a departure, the search of new numbers at the time of a departure and let him not add the numbers which cannot be played to it to switch opportunities on.
The check now and scan now with pressing buttons going we may make the computer check the current state of the playback list any time meanwhile.
The audio inscription we may customize the sound settings on an ear. Worthy it mplayer packet we may do many sound settings resettled to select that opportunity since it is mplayer in an application alone here.
Layouts inscription on an ear worthy the player the arrangement of a window: opportunity the itunes-like to select a style, apple is similar to the player of jukebox we receive an arrangement. We may customize additional useful opportunities in connection with the appearance of the player on an ear on the same one. The show tray icon opportunity likewise worthy switched on to let, showing signs of an icon appearing on the panel at this time too to regulate some things, that the program would be his head window in a forefront.
Pluginek inscription we know the complements which can be reached by the player on an ear who - and to switch on and these to cut his details to fit person. One of the best functions of the gmusicbrowser the usage of the pre-set and individual filters, with which easily may navigate our bulkiest music collections too. Apart from this the program capable our musics according to a diverse viewpoint sortired, for example: Title, lecturer, album, date stb. his basis. Likewise very good thing, that the program is able to dig out the pictures of the cover of the music albums and in case of need to display.
For the potential lingual or orthographic problems excuse me,because this is only a machine translation because I do not speak it england.

This guide still works well, even in Mint KDE(4) with that ^*$! flash-player/AMD64/nvidia mess.

There's only two changes I noticed.

icedtea-gcjwebplugin is now replaced with icedtea6-plugin
and
libk3b2-extracodecs is not needed (for KDE4 at least) so I just removed it.

youtube and apple trailers are playing fine again!

Full install code below:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove gnash gnash-common libflashsupport mozilla-plugin-gnash swfdec-mozilla && sudo apt-get install alsa-oss faac faad flashplugin-nonfree ia32-libs ia32-sun-java6-bin icedtea6-plugin liblame0 libtunepimp5-mp3 libxine1-ffmpeg non-free-codecs openjdk-6-jre unrar kmplayer gecko-mediaplayer

Hi. I have just replaced Ubuntu with Linux Mint. I used to be able to play DVD iso files with VLC Player, having purchased a dvd player program from the Ubuntu Software Center. I am now trying to do the same thing under L-Mint. My problem is that I am getting an encryption error message. I tried the terminal script that is on the link, but got a number of file not found errors. Where can I go from here? Thanks in advance.

Sorry if I sound a little sad, but Mint Julia was working pretty good. Not perfect, but pretty good. I waited for this release, but now I have problems, mostly with scrolling and sound. This sticky is not much help to Mint 13 Maya. It's for Ubuntu, but I'm hooked on Mint. Essentially, my problem lies in the fact that my sound is not very stable now, sometimes on, sometimes not on. Speakers, but no headset, headset but no speakers. Sometimes both, but not usually. I've updated my system a lot, fooled around with Pulse and Gnome Alsa Mixer, tweeked, used one or the other. I'm not sure how to get my system back up to operating speed again, or if I even can. Any way I can get reliable sound back? :( Scrolling marble mouse is another post! :|

I like to watch the linux action show from jupiter broadcasting---in firefox using the stock multimedia sources for mint lisa lxde video jerks terribly--same video from same source using xbmc plays great...does the xbmc use different codecs than lisa comes with or what.If I could get the playback in a browser like it does in the media manager I would not need xbmc.

The commands given in the link referred to do not work on my Maya system.
The reason is that the original poster was posting for the benefit of Ubuntu users.
so he used the term $(lsb_release -cs) in his cmd line.
On LInux Mint 13 that returns the value 'maya'.
The value you want is: 'precise'. (i.e the Ubuntu name for 12.04).

So you will have to modify the cmds he gave to hardwire 'precise' without the quote marks (for Maya release) wherever it says lsb_release -cs
and so forth.
