Re: THE MINT HOUSE AND MYSTERY

Post by npap »

Well Deadguy,
As you can see I also love mystery besides music. Delving into the unknown, once in a while, helps to get away from harsh reality.
Besides, no matter if we grow older, the child in us comes out of hiding quite often. :)
I have always been a fan of Jules Verne and I love anything that has to do with fantasy.
Maybe I haven't grown up yet.

See you at the Mansion,
Cheers, npap

PS. BTW, the Baron holds Vampire meetings when there is a full moon, if you're interested in meeting some of the most famous ones.
Mr. Boris Carloff attends very often. :)

I love Jules Verne also. Some of my favorites are: In Search of the Castaways, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and Off on a Comet.

Npap, does Lord Minthausen have anyone in particular in the dungeon and does it have a torture chamber?
I would suggest to him some of the new low-end laptops with Vista installed as torture devices.
Using Mint as primary OS since 2006.

THE VAMPIRE MEETING

Post by npap »

The Baron wishes to inform everybody that he is honored by the presence of an M$ head (incognito) who will be initiated tonight at midnight in the Dungeon. :)
Torture methods have been devised by the Vista Corporation and will be distributed to any persons interested, under the GPU (General Public Undertakers) license.

Medussa will be our hostess

I always like to break the news in the same old places before the big public announcements.. the IRC chatroom and the Mint House :)

So anyway old friends.. here we are again, 12 hours or so before the public release announcements. "Le calme avant la tempete", when the servers aren't down and the downloads are still fast.

ISO and MD5: http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/linuxmint.com/5/
Release Notes (not finalized yet): http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_elyssa.php

Enjoy!

Clem.

You will get my first impressions later today, since I'm going to install it on my test disk. :D :D :D

WELCOME ELYSSA

Post by npap »

So here she is. Just out of her box. :D
Reporting from Elyssa live. All is well. :)

Note: Some Iso files I downloaded were either empty or short in contents (353 and 208 MB) :o

Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm at work right now, so unfortunately I won't be able to start downloading Elyssa until this evening... but just reading the comprehensive release notes is a revelation!

The hard work that clem and the team have put into this release is obvious. The upstream improvements look great, but it's the Mint tool advances and the seemingly minor touches (like root folders) that I know will make all the difference.

This is an amazing piece of work - everyone involved should be feeling very proud.

By the way, the mention my artwork received in the release notes was both unexpected and wonderful! :D

Tried it yesterday, had a few quirks to it...

* When I insert my headphones in the headphone socket, the speakers mute, but there's no sound in the headphones.
* Desktop effects had to be turned on and off two times to get it to work.
* It took forever for the live CD to boot.

Other then that it worked fine, all hardware found except my on board card reader.
A lot of useful features, for instance the new version of the mintTools feels very stable and mature.

Nice artwork (thank you Jernau!), but inconsistent.
The boot screen says: High tech, Sci-Fi, Youth.
While the rest of the artwork says: Business, Elegance, Minimalistic, Mature.
Just my two cents...

Other then that nice selection of themes, but a new default icon set (exclusive to Linux Mint) would really improve the looks and the personality of this release A LOT.
Personally I'm no fan of the default blue mint theme, should be a green shade in my opinion.

Nice to have it out so fast though - excellent job from everyone involved! :!:

Only getting 350 kb/sec this morning, not too bad but wish I had hung around a bit later last night. But it was mother's day in the US and I was a little liberal with the wine... Anyway, thanks Clem! :D

ELYSSA
Welcome Elyssa, our sweetest dream
Another wonder, another scheme
I'm falling in love with you already
Can't seem to go with someone steady

Daryna will be jealous I fear
All women are fickle my dear
They're all sweet, and always smart
Leaving behind a broken heart

My love, I'm full of sadness
Can't stand this frenzy madness
As soon as I fall in love with you
Another lady I'll have to woo
