radeon 6670 graphics card
does this graphic card work with linux {am a newb} installed linux mint on an old dell dimension and enjoyed using it.So in my wisdom i installed it on my main system low and behold it wont work and have to us compatiblity mode with the live cd just to get on as i get a screen full of multi- coloured blocks booting in and out and doing nothing else

Did you search and read ANY other threads on video, graphics, Radeon, etc? Did the Dell have an AGP slot on it and you put the video card in the PCI slot next to it? That is a No Go on a lot of computers. Did you turn off the integrated video when you installed the video card? I'm guessing not.
All things go better with Mint. Mint julep, mint jelly, mint gum, candy mints, pillow mints, peppermint, chocolate mints, spearmint,....
