Since UP7 no file-transfer from Canon Ixus [SOLVED]

Post by py-thon »

Before UP7 I could connect my Canon Ixus 80is via USB with my PC and the SDHC of the camera worked like any memory card or pen-drive connected to the PC.
After UP7 I can have the files listed and can look at the photos with EOM. That's it.
What I can't do anymore is: copy or move the files from the camera's memory card to some other place like the HDD (error "Vorgang wird vom Backend nicht unterstützt" something like "Action is not supported by backend"), create or delete folders or files on the memory card ("Beim Erstellen des Ordners in gphoto2://[usb:003,004]/DCIM ist ein Fehler aufgetreten." something like "Error when creating folder in gphoto2://[usb:003,004]/DCIM"). Even when looking at the picture in EOM "Save as..." only seems to work, but doesn't save anything.

Following help from another forum I installed shotwell and with shotwell it is still possible to import photos directly from the camera. No solution as I don't like shotwell, but at least a workaround.

I suspect the problem is in the backend (gvfs), like I mentioned in this post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=198&t=146187#p769143

Has anyone tried gvfs_1.18.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb?

Don't get the package from Ubuntu. It's safer to just downgrade to 1.12 (you can get it from the Wheezy repo) than that.

I'd rather use the workaround until a real bugfix than downgrade.

i think I have the same problem, since UP7, with my Android mobile phone and its internal microSD :|
I connect it to the laptop, I accept the connection from my mobile phone but I cannot see it listed as a new device (and even in /media there's no trace)...

The Ixus doesn't appear in /media either (it did before UP7).

I've got problems with canon ixus camera after upgrade too. Downgrading gvfs didn't help me to solve it.

Sadly UP8 did not solve this problem.

Looks like this bug (or this one in Ubuntu). It's fixed in glib2.0 2.38.1. Currently, 2.38.x versions are only available in Debian Unstable repos.

glib2.0 2.38.2-5 migrated to Testing yesterday, so you can get it from there.

Thanks, but it didn't help at all.

Before UP7
complete access to the memory card of my camera

With UP7
Caja shows the camera, I can list the content, view it with EOM, but nothing else (no copy, move, rename, delete, etc.)
desktop icon CAMERANAME
no folder /media/USERNAME/CAMERANAME
I can copy the content with shotwell only.

With UP8 (glib-versions from LMDE-repo and Debian Testing alike)
Caja doesn't show the camera anymore
no desktop icon CAMERANAME
no folder /media/USERNAME/CAMERANAME
I can only access the content with shotwell
lsusb recognizes the camera as

Code: Select all

ID 04a9:3184 Canon, Inc. Digital IXUS 80 IS (PTP mode)

Did you upgrade all the packages built from source package glib2.0 - libglib2.0-0, libglib2.0-bin, libglib2.0-data, etc. (the full list is on this page)?

Re: Since UP7 no file-transfer from Canon Ixus

Post by py-thon »

No, I only upgraded the packages that were already installed on my system (libglib2.0-0, libglib2.0-0bin and libglib2.0-0data). The other packages were not on my system and are not named as dependencies (e.g. on https://packages.debian.org/jessie/libglib2.0-0 ).
Maybe I would have to upgrade gvfs and all the gvfs-* too. gvfs-mount -li doesn't show the camera at all. With all the dependencies of gvfs I will end up as before: using shotwell for the import as I don't use the camera very often and don't want to spend hours trying to fix this.

After suggestions here http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 69#p827937 and in the mentioned bug report https://bugs.debian.org/729853 (which is considered fixed by debian) I installed newer packages from testing and sid:

Code: Select all

ii gphoto2 2.5.3-1 amd64 digital camera command-line client
ii libgphoto2-2:amd64 2.4.14-2.4 amd64 gphoto2 digital camera library
ii libgphoto2-2:i386 2.4.14-2.4 i386 gphoto2 digital camera library
ii libgphoto2-6:amd64 2.5.3.1-1 amd64 gphoto2 digital camera library
ii libgphoto2-l10n 2.5.3.1-1 all gphoto2 digital camera library - localized
ii libgphoto2-port0:am 2.4.14-2.4 amd64 gphoto2 digital camera port library
ii libgphoto2-port0:i3 2.4.14-2.4 i386 gphoto2 digital camera port library
ii libgphoto2-port10:a 2.5.3.1-1 amd64 gphoto2 digital camera port library
plus a dependency libcdk5
The i386-versions according to aptitude why are installed because of Google Earth, so I didn't feel any need to update them.

Made no difference. When I connect the camera the system still gives me:

Code: Select all

[ 59.247225] gvfs-gphoto2-vo[4375]: segfault at 38 ip 00007fb05fbe70d0 sp 00007fff06aca988 error 4 in libusb-1.0.so.0.1.0[7fb05fbe3000+16000]
Disconnecting and connecting a second time the segfault-message doesn't appear again but there is no connection, no icon, nothing in /media/USERNAME
Only shotwell still lists the camera and is able to import the files.

Should I purge libgphoto2-2:amd64 and libgphoto2-port0:amd64 ?
Edit: No, I can't. There are important dependencies on libgphoto2-2.

Edit #2: gvfs-mount -li gives

Code: Select all

Error creating proxy: Fehler beim Aufruf von StartServiceByName für org.gtk.Private.GPhoto2VolumeMonitor: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildSignaled: Process /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor received signal 11 (g-dbus-error-quark, 26)
This is new. Before the new packages there was no sign of the digital camera in this listing.

Edit #3: syslog gives the following information

Code: Select all

Hmm, this comment and gvfs changelog told me that gvfs 1.16.3-2 has been rebuilt against the new libgphoto2 (>= 2.5). Maybe that's the last thing that should be updated to fix the issue?

Different camera, but same issue in LMDE 201403 MATE 64-bit [Update 8] ... ( http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2577#comment-104994 )

FWIW. Here's a list of the files I installed/updated to get this to work _at_this_time_:

gvfs_1.16.3-2_amd64.deb
gvfs-backends_1.16.3-2_amd64.deb
gvfs-bin_1.16.3-2_amd64.deb
gvfs-common_1.16.3-2_all.deb
gvfs-daemons_1.16.3-2_amd64.deb
gvfs-libs_1.16.3-2_amd64.deb
libgphoto2-6_2.5.3.1-1_amd64.deb

(I used this link http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gvfs.html and searched in the 'jump to' box to download the above list of files).

A REBOOT was required after installing these files. ......... Thanks 'Monsta'!
