Help with freeze problems

Post by Guest »

Hi there,
I started to try Ubuntu with virtualBox and later with Wubi.

The first one went well but as Ubuntu could not see my hardware trough VB I was prepered for the next step and did it with Wubi. Problems started here.
Everytime (with Life CD or after installation) Ubuntu reaches the desktop after login/password it freezes within a few seconds. Sometimes he let me start firefox but the final resault is allways the same. No mouse and no Keyboard.

So I tryied to obtain some answers from Ubuntu experts with this topic http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=791412 but somehow they must think Im some kind of windows spy or something couse the help was not so helpfull...

The first replies guieded me to linux mint and here I am.

I burned linix mint 4.0 to an dvd and that went well and tried it out on my pc at home. Very nice look and feel starting and reaching the desktop, but then the same thing appens. It freezes.
Im not sure If I should even try to install it as i did with Ubuntu couse im afraid the end its the same. Im not willing to give up on linux couse im feedup with windows but You guys understand that I need to have it running in order to learn it.

What should I do?

My system specs are in the topic above.

Thanks in advance

I am disgusted by the response you got in the Ubuntu forum, luckily we don't have much of that sort here and they risk being kicked out for that kind of behaviour
However your problem is very hard to solve i fear
You get to see the desktop. How does GDM look? (GDM is where you log in)
If it is as it should you should be able to choose session and among them "Failsafe gnome"
Try this - it may work as you are so close to success
And welcome to Mint

Ok this can be a driver problem - did you install drivers?
If not don't do anything except start Envy the next time and let it install drivers
If it gets all white there is a post about that here

(not sure if Envy ng supports text mode)

So this is Daryna KDE
From the error messages it seems that the DVD is faulty
For some reason I've missed that possibility above
Did you check the md5sum and burned slowly
