This is probably some old hardware and there is not much to find about it
There may be a switch to turn off the modem, if it's turned off switch it on again

Re: no sound on conexant 20549 (venice)
Hi there,
I'm running the same driver.
Sound works on my HP laptop in a fashion (the mystery for me is that it used to work perfectly about a year ago). Can I suggest that you double click on your sound speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner of you desktop. This should bring up volume controls. Make sure that Master and PCM are not muted (they often are after an ALSA driver upgrade).
Failing that I suggest that you do an install of the very latest ALSA driver from the ALSA site. The latest driver is 1.0.16. These include bug fixes of various kinds. Give that a shot.
Cheers
