3. SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER

Code: Select all

E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/packages.medibuntu.org_dists_raring_free_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Please help me sort this out. Ive been wishing to use KDE for a while and have had a terrible time trying to get it to work. Im rather quite stubborn so I would like to try and get this to work; however, I am deploying soon and would like a working laptop! If I figure anything out in the mean time I will post results!

Re: Update and Package management not working

Post by xenopeek »

Medibuntu has been removed, as per this sticky post: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=147271. Just remove the Medibuntu repository (see the link for tips on how).

To fix the MergeList issue just open Software Sources, click on Maintenance, and click on "Fix MergeList issue".

Doing these two things will solve the other errors you are getting.

Xenopeek,

While I was searching for a solution I followed the instructions given here"
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=122213&hilit=update Although it is a bit different than the version of Mint KDE I am using now, the premise is the same. I changed the download mirrors to Canadian ones (Im not sure if they are the closet to my location, but Im sure they are closer than the UK ones it was set to pull from) and updated everything. I started with the update manager and then went on to terminal to do update and upgrade followed by a reboot and things are looking fully functional!

The Software manager also is now working as Im downloading chromium right now. Just to be safe though I have followed your instructions as well.

Thank you! :mrgreen:
