minimize, maximize and close button problem
I am using linux mint 15 with gnome. The problem i am experiencing is that when i am opening a folder ( ex: home, my computer, etc ) for the first time, the minimize, maximize and close buttons won't work. In order for them to work i have to minimize the window from the taskbar and maximize it again. After this action the buttons work just fine. Sometimes after the minimize and maximize action, when i try for example to minimize that window it minimizez the inactive windows in the background if i have more windows opened simultaneous. I would really areciate the help.

Re: minimize, maximize and close button problem
Mint doesn't exactly do a gnome version
Do you mean Cinnamon?
Or have you explicitly installed Gnome Shell on another DE install?

My bad... It's Mate. I thought it's gnome because in compiz settings it's under gnome compatibility.caf4926 wrote:Mint doesn't exactly do a gnome version

Try turning off Desktop Effects if you have them enabled
Log out and back in

Create a new user as a test
Login with it and tell us if you have the same issue

Re: minimize, maximize and close button problem
Depending how knowledgeable you are - you could work thru and delete some of the hidden config folders
I usually do this from my other install (side by side)

Re: minimize, maximize and close button problem
Open your Home and press Ctrl+H
The folders and files that have a dot . (there are normally hidden) can now be seen.
You can actually delete all hidden files and folders (some may contain browser settings eg: .mozilla .config and .cache) which you may prefer to keep.
I usually keep .mozilla .opera .thunderbird
And some folders inside .config and .cache (usually just folders for chrome and chromium)
But I always do this from another install (I always have installs side by side, never just one install all alone) - On customer computers, if I have to do this, I use Parted Magic to delete files.
If you are in doubt about deleting, I suggest you rename.
Once you login again having done this. It will behave rather like you have logged in for the very first time.

Re: minimize, maximize and close button problem
I managed to solve the problem in a diffrent way. I disabled and enabled the settings under compiz and it seems to work fine now. The problem is gone. Thanks for your replies thow.
