When I connect to my TV via HDMI lead I do not get any sound only a picture. Why is this & how can I get it to work?

We need a lot more information here to help you.
What are your systems specs and what are you connecting to a TV?
If you are connecting a computer to a TV, the DVI output from a computer does not support sound, only video. So a separate connection (eg using RCA cables) would be needed. But I am only guessing here since we dont know what is being connected to what...

It was as simple as that! Although I didn't realise that the HDMI lead had to be connected in order to configure it.
Many thanks.
