Cinnamon 2.0 - Dual Monitor Issue - A Configuration Problem?

Post by freibadschwimmer »

I didn't find any similar problem, so I'm starting a new thread:

I am running Cinnamon since quite a while already on Mint 13, and so far couldn't get a dual monitor setup working properly.
I have a notebook in a docking station with an external monitor connected. As long as the monitors are mirroring, both monitors work fine. However, when I try to let them run as separate displays, in the past cinnamon slowed down significantly (as I have described more than a year ago here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=104578). In Mate however, it always worked fine. This issue appeared in cinnamon versions 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8.

Recently I have upgraded to Cinnamon 2.0.
When I try now to uncheck "mirroring" in the display settings, I get an error message (which I did not get in earlier Cinnamon versions), that the configuration can't be made:
Failed to apply configuration: %s
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface »org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2« on object at path /org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR
Since I am not much of an advanced user, I don't understand this error message, but at least I get something now, which I hope can help to solve the issue

Here are my settings:

with further updates of the cinnamon desktop, the above mentioned error message disappeared. unfortunately - the problem still exists, that i can't use dual monitor set-up under cinnamon, if the monitors are not set "mirroring."

i was however able to get a screenshot how it looks like, if i uncheck "mirroring" in the display settings:
