I am running Cinnamon since quite a while already on Mint 13, and so far couldn't get a dual monitor setup working properly.
I have a notebook in a docking station with an external monitor connected. As long as the monitors are mirroring, both monitors work fine. However, when I try to let them run as separate displays, in the past cinnamon slowed down significantly (as I have described more than a year ago here: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=104578). In Mate however, it always worked fine. This issue appeared in cinnamon versions 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8.
Recently I have upgraded to Cinnamon 2.0.
When I try now to uncheck "mirroring" in the display settings, I get an error message (which I did not get in earlier Cinnamon versions), that the configuration can't be made:
Since I am not much of an advanced user, I don't understand this error message, but at least I get something now, which I hope can help to solve the issueFailed to apply configuration: %s
