I am using Mint 14 nadia and GNOME.
I am thinking of upgrading to Mint 16.
I long ago gave up on the weather applet as running it continually crashed the desktop.
Has anyone noticed it not being a problem in Mint 16?

I gave up on the Gnome desktop a long time ago so I cannot help you there but ...
the weather applet in Linux Mint 16 with Cinnamon by mockturtl works perfectly without crashes.

I couldn't install mockturtl weather applet in LM16 cinnamon.
He even installs but won't start.

Did you install it manually, or through the "More Applets" function? Also, did you restart Cinnamon after it installed?
Note that if you went to Cinammon Spices online and downloaded/installed it manually, you may have gotten the older applet that won't work in Cinnamon 2.

I am also having trouble with the weather applet (mint 1.6 cinnamon). Trying to "Get more online" applets just freezes like this: http://imgur.com/ZOc479I and downloading it manually ( http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/17 ) gives no instructions on how to install it.
Any help appreciated
