Do you have an onboard soundcard or an Audigy 2, or both? I have both an Audigy 2 and an onboard. It might sound stupid, but make sure, if you want to use your Audigy, that you disable the onboard soundcard in your bios. Let me know if this fixes things.marshatherton wrote:ok. nothing works now. only onboard intel audio. it worked fine 2 days ago. how do i re-install it? where are drivers for this? it recognizes it, in the hardware, it shows it there, but says alot of unknowns under it. where are the drivers?

Re: creative sound blaster audigy 2 not working
The problem you are having is Mint detects the on board sound card, even though it is disabled in the Bios, and makes it the default. It also makes the Audigy the second sound card. You need to make the Audigy the Default.
1st: Open the Terminal - accessories terminal
2nd: Type less /proc/asound/moduels press enter note the on board for later
0 snd_via82xx
1 snd_emu10k1
#0 is my on board sound and #1 is the Audigy
3rd: Open Computer filesystem /ect/modprob.d/alsa-base
or if you want to use the Terminal type sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base this will open the same file
4th: Where it says # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index add a "0"
should look like this # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0
5th: Below the line you just changed add a new line options snd_whateveryourcardnameis index=-2
should look similar to this options snd_via82xx index=-2
6th: Save
7th restart the computer
after the restart double click the volume icon on the desktop the volume control will pop up click file change devices and you should now see Audigy as 0

Re: creative sound blaster audigy 2 not working
If you upgrade to Mint 5 the sound card will work fine it may also resolve the video card problem
Re: creative sound blaster audigy 2 not working
for graphics, you need to use EnvyNG, its preinstalled in Mint.
go to the menu > administration > EnvyNG
from there select ATI > Install the ATI driver default configuraton.
you'll probably need a reboot after.
