Sorry for the beginners question, but where do I find "tutorials"?
On the web or in Linux somewhere?

I found tutorials, but could not find a suitable version of Skype for my version of Linux.

Maybe just install from the website http://www.skype.com/ ?

You can install Skype from Synaptic. There's also a simple tweak to get a larger video window.

Should find all the info you need when you enter skype in the search for this topic at the top of the Software & Applications page. There you will find quite a few posts in this regard.

I have tried most of the suggestions above and still cannot find a version of Skype suitable for Linux Mint 16.
The Skype site does not offer one. It offers others, for all I know, one of them might be suitable. i tried downloading a version for Ubuntu, but it would not work.
Frustrating.

Can someone help with a solution that works please?

In a Terminal paste:

Code: Select all

apt install skype --install-recommends
and hit Enter.

After that you will just have to read the posts in this forum in order to get skype working. :(

Ok, thanks I'll give that a go now.
By the way, where do I see (0r enter) the "Code:Select" part of that suggestion? I have never seen in it Terminal and it has never accepted a entry of those words?
Puzzled?

It worked! Thanks tejas.
I have not tried it out yet, it's a bit too early in the morning. However, it seems to be otherwise fine.
This was my first opportuntiy to use the "Terminal" function in Linux.

No no, the "Code: Select All" is for selection of the entry below, not part of the code... ;)

And here had never given it a passing thought. Live and learn.

Ok, I more or less understand. What it amounts to is I should ignore it, is that correct? Where does it arise and for what purpose?

I will try out making a call with Skype later tomorrow or tonight even. If it works as I expect it to I will edit the title of this thread to "solved".

Thanks to all.

Click on it then you can copy the entry for whatever purpose you need.

Will be very surprised if it works first off, otherwise you cannot escape reading the previous posts of others, where is explained how
