[SOLVED] Convert Ogg Video to MP3 Audio

Post by ecoalex »

I finally got RecordMyDesktop to record sound (Yeah!) that took years, and Mint Mate 16.

I would like to capture the audio from the video.

What app would allow me to capture audio from an ogg video, or convert the viseo to a format I could then convert to mp3 audio?

Thanks

It looks like Mencoder might get me part way there,I ran across that too.
I ripped an audio file off a DVR DVD of SNL a while back,I forget what app I used, it showed the two tracks; the video and audio files, I then could capture just the audio.I'm reluctant to mess with adding too many apps, as it shows changes that happens in the Software Manager.

Thanks

To convert sound formats you can use "Sound Converter".
To play all collected mp3 files at the same volume you can use "easyMP3Gain".
To separate the audio from the video track you can use "Avidemux (GTK+)".

Mate 16

Would jack capture be an option?

I installed it, but can't find it to launch it.I must need more files than the one from software manager.

To separate the audio from the video track you can use "Avidemux (GTK+)".

Avidemux can also convert - select the sound format you want before saving the audio.

And "audacity" can read some video formats and extract the audio, to edit/convert/save.

When I open the video with audacity, I get a large gray blank screen.Does this mean the video format can't be loaded?

I will install Avidemux and try that.

ok
i found soundkonverter in the program library and installed it
- the install ran to "94%" -- and did not complete -- but -- the program seems to run OK
-it does set replay gain tags but seems to be missing the 0db reference point

i use Audacious for play back

Audacious does respect the gain tags if you select that option in their preference dialog

too, Audacious allows you to select 16,24, 32, or 32 float as input to ALSA. i'm using AMD on-chip DAC (ATI/Radeon)
I have my .flac files as 24 bit / 48khz . the default on Audacity is to feed 16 bit data to ALSA.
when i switched this to 32float it cleaned up the sound, noticeably. i chose 32/float because some of my .wav files use that format. you would not want to convert 24 bit to 16 but in converting to 32/float yoy don't lose anything

there seems to be an ongoing argument over this in the digital music works, some folks even arguing for 192khz sampling.
Monte doesn't buy into this -- see http://www.xiph.org/video/ and goes into a discussion of "aliasing" -- which I didn't understand -- but -- acording to Monte -- too high a sample rate can actually be detrimental-- 41khz 'sufficient' he says, while the 48khz rate provides a little better 'headspace'

i've tried this a little -- and i still think 32/float .wav format sounds a little better than 24 bit .flac

Sound Konverter is for KDE, not my mint edition.
There is a sound converter in the software manager, sound konverter in the synaptic library.

I tried sound converter, it doesn't open the video file.

Under properties of this file : Ogg Video (video/ogg)

I would like to rip the audio from this video.

After installing libavcodec-extra-52 from the synaptic, I was able to use Winff to convert an Ogg video to avi.The video quality sucked, the audio was good.I am hopefully able to rip the audiotrack using Avidemux. I will give a report shortly.

Success ! Conversion of audio track from .Ogg video (Record My Desktop) to .Wav using Winff after installing Install libavcodec-extra-52 .Now a .Wav file, an easy conversion to a Mp3 using Sound converter.
